Need date night inspiration, look no further…
The Mr and I are both ultra foodies so although date night can often be a trip to the cinema I would say it’s more likely to be drinks and dinner. I blog about a fair few restaurants but seeing as it’s Valentines Day I thought I would compile my top 5 date night restaurants in one place for you. These are mainly South West London based with a couple of city places thrown in.
The Last Minute Mid Week
When an opportunity comes up to grab a quick date night my first thought is my local pub and The Royal Oak is just a short walk from our flat. We love their pizza’s but they also do really delicious but unusual pub food, so it’s not just burgers and fish & chips. The staff are delightful, the decor is cosy yet stylish and the gin range is ace! No reservations required mid week but if you’re heading there on a Rugby day you may need to book.
13 Richmond Rd, Twickenham TW1 3AB. Nearest station: Twickenham
The Slightly Quirky Option
A restaurant in an old public toilet? Yes you read that correctly, WC is a wine bar and characteurie housed in a former public toilet. This place is very much a sharing is caring approach and is the perfect place to start an evening out, the menu changes weekly but each time pairs their dishes perfectly, the creaminess of the cheese is cut through with the saltiness of the cured meat. It’s a first come first serve basis for tables of 2 but so worth waiting for one to come available.
Clapham Common South Side, London SW4 7AA. Nearest station: Clapham Common
The Lunch Date
Temakinho is a sushi lovers dream and in my opinion a perfect lunch (and dinner) destination. If you are a long time reader of my blog then you will probably know how much I love sushi, and I can safely say that Temakinho has the best sushi I have ever had! Temakinho has obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable restaurant chains, they are the first restaurant chain in the world to receive this. The rice comes from controlled farming and its cooked daily and the desserts are made at their restaurant in Milan so they know exactly where all the ingredients come from.
10 Old Compton St, Soho, London W1D 4TF. Nearest station: Tottenham Court
The Carnivores Paradise
Sometimes you just want comfort food when it comes to date night and one of our favourite places to go is MeatUp. Burgers, ribs and steaks all cooked to perfection, it’s a non-fuss restaurant with delicious cocktails, attentive staff and something for everyone – even vegetarians.
350 Old York Rd, London SW18 1SS. Nearest station: Wandsworth Town
The Decadent Date
The Mr and I are not fancy however sometimes we like to really splash out on a date night especially on a birthday and Duck & Waffle Local is the perfect place to celebrate something special. You might not be 100 floors up in the Shard but the quality and the service is still second to none and you are more likely to get a table!
52 Haymarket, St. James’s, London SW1Y 4RP. Nearest station: Piccadilly Circus
Honourable mentions include: OKA|Temper|Mac & Wild
I’m always on the look out for new date night destinations so let me know your favourites in the comments!
