It wouldn’t be the end of the year without a ‘Best products of …’ post.
Despite spending most of my life inside in 2020 I actually tried out a fair few products; loved some and felt meh about others. I debated posting a yearly favourites what with how this year has gone but if you fancied treating yourself to something new to kick off the new year these are my top 5 beauty products.
Soap Brows | Face Halo Pads | Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer| Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder | Green People Shower Gel.
Let’s start with the make up; seeing as this started out as a beauty blog many moons ago! Leading up to my wedding I ended up buying quite a few bits and bobs and I new I needed a new base for the big day so I took the plunge and tried something new. The Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation; if you loved NARS Tinted Moisturiser and are looking for a cruelty free version then this is the product for you. It’s got a perfect lightweight formula that covers any redness and evens out the skin tone whilst still looking natural, plus if you are a dry skin girl like me then it doesn’t cling to any dry patches. I prefer to apply this with my fingers but it does work with a buffing brush as well. I also this year discovered the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer which would be my stand out product of year! It’s really creamy despite being described as a liquid concealer and a little goes a long way; it’s high coverage but doesn’t feel cakey or heavy and I do often wear this alone without foundation. It’s brightening enough that you can wear it under your eyes but it will also conceal any blemishes or redness. It has a sponge tip applicator so I apply directly to my skin and then blend in with my finger.
I jumped on the Soap Brows train very late and I wish I had discovered it sooner! If you love full fluffy brows then this is for you, I have naturally thick brows and this is the only way I’ve found to tame them. It’s not a look that everyone is going to love but I just can’t get enough. It’s super simple to apply, I used to use a rose water and a spoolie but have recently switched to a make up setting spray with a bristled eyebrow brush as it’s less expensive and the bristle brush is easier to clean than a spoolie. Once it’s set it can feel quite stiff but you do get used to that after a few wears and your brows don’t budge all day.
Moving on to more skin care and body care; I was given Face Halo pads as a secret santa present last year and had never heard of them before but they are a game changer especially if you like to travel (not so much this year – I took these on my one holiday abroad back in January) or if you’re having a lazy day and don’t want to double cleanse. I bought these for my sister who will be a new mum in February and thought they would be the perfect time saver for her. They quickly and easily remove makeup just with water, as always I don’t understand the science but I think the fibers help remove the makeup from your skin without having to scrub really hard. They are non-toxic and reusable, Face Halo replaces up to 500 single-use makeup wipes. You do eventually have to repurchase them but they are certainly a more sustainable way to remove make up. I normally follow up with a cream cleanser but if you’re travelling and don’t want to take too many lotions and potions then these are a great space saver.
I am normally a solid soap kind of girl, as it’s way more eco friendly however I was gifted these Green People shower gels for my birthday and they are bloomin’ amazing. All their products are certified organic, vegan and cruelty free with a concentrated formula so a little goes a long way. They are packed full of plants which are good for the skin and add a bit of luxury to your everyday shower and this year I’ve really need a little bit of luxury in the more mundane parts of life. Granted they do come in plastic however they have ensured that their packaging is fully recyclable, and once recycled can be turned into more packaging (you can read more about why they package in plastic here).
There you have it my top 5 of 2020. These were all new to me this year however I do have some honorable mentions of products that were already in my collection and I re-discovered my love for them.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow Extreme|Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette|Nanshy Brush Cleanser.
I want to try the face halo cleaning idea!! I do not have a good way to get eye makeup off…thanks for the tip!
