How to get a Flawless Base Every Time

Maybe she’s born with it…maybe it’s really good makeup.

I am all for giving your skin a break, trust me unless I’m taking blog photos or celebrating something special the only makeup I’ve got on is a set of lashes and that’s if I haven’t snoozed the alarm clock 10 times. However having a good base can cover a multitude of things; stayed up till 4am binge watching The Crown pop on a good base and you’re good to go, tried a new product and it broke you out blend in a combination of products and bam you’re good to go, etc. etc. you get the picture. So here are my go to products for the perfect base.

Now obviously the perfect base really starts at skincare but I witter on enough about that so I thought i’d just focus on the best makeup to use to create a flawless and dewy base. Please note I have skin that is slightly drier and I definitely have a rosier complexion than most so this routine is tailored towards combatting those issues. After skincare I go straight in with primer The Urban Decay Complexion Optical Illusion Primer, it helps bring down the redness in my skin, helps my makeup last for longer and creates a smooth base for the rest of the routine. Highlighter wise I prefer a more healthy glow all over so I use the NO7 Skin Illuminator almost like a moisturiser all over my face, it doesn’t make you look like a glitter ball just adds a subtle glow to your skin. Then with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush I buff in the Illamasqua Skin Base. A little goes a long way and you can build it up to have full coverage without it looking cakey. After I’ve buffed it in I then finish off by bouncing the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge all over the face to give a flawless finish.

If you’ve been following the blog for a while you will know how much of a concealer addict I am. Under the eyes to brighten and conceal any dark circles I use the LA Girl Pro Conceal, it’s lightweight blends in easily, doesn’t crease and the slightly lighter shade helps to brighten the under eyes. I tend to prefer a slightly heavier coverage on any imperfections so I reach for the ReCover Correct and Conceal, it’s full coverage without looking cakey and blends in seamlessly. To set these I tap a little bit of Vanilla from ABH Contour Palette, it’s so finely milled that it doesn’t cling to any dry patches and doesn’t cause flashback when photos are taken.

Despite getting rid of the rosier side of my complexion I need to add some colour back into my cheeks so I don’t look like a mime artist. The Illamasqua blusher Katie is the perfect rosy cheek shade that blends out and leaves you looking healthy without looking a clown, it’s super pigmented so a little goes a long way! To add some dimension I always add a touch of Illamasqua Hollow under my cheek bones, it’s a cream product which doesn’t make you look muddy and leaves you with a natural contour. If I want to add a little more highlight to my face I dust a bit of Sand from the ABH Contour Palette on top of my blush, tip of the nose and my cupids bow.

And there you have it my go to products for the perfect base! What are your favourite products?
