As we battle through the grim weather of January I’m showing you my favourite products for combatting that horrible winter skin; you know the dry, itchy maybe a little flakey dull looking skin – too much? I always feel the need for something a little more in the winter time and that’s where these gems step in.
Inis Nourishing Hand Cream|New Dawn Rich Cream*|No7 Beautiful Skin Hydration Mask|No7 Skin Illuminator|Soap&Glory The Righteous Butter|Sanctuary Spa Shower Oil|Balance Me Radiance Facial Oil|Nip+Fab Dragons Blood Fix Plumping Serum|Antonia Burrell Mask Supreme 7 in 1.
My skin care and make-up routine in general is catered towards dry skin but there are some superhero products I tend to whip out when the colder weather strikes.
Starting with the obvious but the best way to combat winter skin is in your daily skincare routine. After cleansing and exfoliating I’ve added a hydrating serum into my nightly routine. The Nip+Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum has always caught my eye on the shelves of Superdrug so I took the plunge and decided to try it out. It’s very heavily scented but packed full of hyaluronic acid to hydrate, velvet flower to enhance moisturisation and dragons blood to comfort and hydrate. It’s super lightweight and doesn’t leave a layer on your skin. I wouldn’t say it’s life changing but it certainly packs a hydration punch.
I use a rich night cream anyway but I really up the moisturising game at night time when my skin really has the time to recover. The New Dawn Aloe Vera Rich Cream*, is a beautiful organic cream filled with essential oils, aloe vera, shea butter and more to help hydrate your skin. Perfect for sensitive skin it’s lightweight on the skin but is nourishing, rejuvenating and healing for the skin, you can also use this all over the body and we all know how much I love a multi purpose product. Lastly in my arsenal of skincare is something I probably talk about too much; the Balance Me Radiance Face Oil. It’s a game changer to your skincare routine and instantly adds hydration to the skin and gives any dull skin an instant glow.
Again I couldn’t not include the No7 Hydration Mask in a post about dry skin because it is my miracle mask. Cleanse your face then apply a layer, chill out for 10 minutes or if you are in a rush just 3 minutes then wash off with a flannel and you’ve got super soft, hydrated skin. I always use this on clients before their big day and it’s the perfect hangover skin care cure as well. If you’re more of a mud mask lover then the Antonia Burrell Mask Supreme is the perfect choice. It’s pricey but so worth it; just a thin layer of it hydrates, smooths, detoxifies, repairs, clarifies, illuminates, protects and perfects. I love using this as an over night mask for a massive hydration boost. If you want a double whammy then use the Antonia Burrell followed by the No7, like a mini facial in your bathroom.
Normally when we talk about winter skin saviors we just think of the face and forget about the rest of our body; however, the Sanctuary Spa Shower Oil is a life saver for lazy girls like me who need moisturising but don’t want to spend 3 hours spreading body butter all over themselves. It’s packed full of Omegas 3,6 & 9 which leaves your skin feeling nourished for days after plus it doesn’t leave you with any residue just hydrated beautifully soft skin. If you do have time to moisturise after your shower/bath – I do make more of an effort in winter then I would highly recommend the Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter. Not only does it smell divine but it’s rich and hydrating while still remaining light weight and easy to rub in.
The other thing we often forget to talk about is hand cream. Now I have so many different ones in various bags and coat pockets but my favourite is the Inis Nourishing Hand Cream. It’s packed full of sea minerals, seaweed extract, argan oil and shea butter which helps to nourish and protect. It also smells phenomenal. Lastly is the No7 Skin Illuminator, its the quick fix for transforming dull winter skin, I mix it in with my foundation to get that lit from within glow. It’s lightweight and doesn’t make you look like a disco ball, just a nice subtle glow.
