Join me as I buzz around Kew Gardens after hours.
As you may already know I am a huge fan of Kew Gardens most recently i’ve written about it here and here, so when I found out they were doing an After Hours revolving around The Hive I knew I had to book tickets. My sister was down for the week so I scooped her, my mum and the Mr into the car and we set off in the early evening.
The sun was still shining when we arrived so we started the evening off at The Orangery for a few Hive themed activities including candle making, temporary tattoos, honey tasting and even life drawing – which I did not attempt as my skills stop at stickmen!

We picked up a bite to eat; lamb shwarma paired with a cheeky gin and tonic and waited for the sun to set and the main event to happen. We didn’t have to wait long just enough time to purchase some honeycomb from the shop.
Glittering through the trees The Hive, looked more like a fairy party than a metal structure.
The Hive in the daytime is magical enough but at night it really comes to life. The lights you see and the sounds you hear inside are triggered by bee activity in a real beehive at Kew. It’s like being inside a beehive but slightly more hypnotic.
We explored every inch, taking in the sights and sounds before returning to the real world and setting off home.
Keep an eye out on Kew Gardens Twitter for more awesome ‘After Hours’ events!
