Because when the flights are only £12 there is no excuse to say NO to Dublin.
Holidays are some of the reasons why people work and when you get them at a great bargain it’s even better; and although we had to trek to Gatwick to fly, a 1pm flight for £12 was well worth that hike. If you’re ever flying from Gatwick then check out the Grain Store for a wholesome and delicious meal before you fly.
An hour and a half later we hopped into a taxi, and yes our driver did greet us with a “top of the mornin’ “ before arriving at Kellys Hotel. Our room was beautiful, the staff were excellent and with two bars available without having to leave the hotel was a mega plus. Also the bed was one of the comfiest I have slept on and if you’re heading to Dublin you can get all that without breaking the bank!
We dumped our bags and set off to explore. We hadn’t planned too many activities as we wanted a relaxing holiday so decided to take our taxi drivers advice and take a wander through Trinity College.
Trinity College is right in the heart of Dublin as well as being a working university it also houses The Book of Kells one of Irelands national treasures. We didn’t have time to see it on this trip but it’s already top of the list for when we go back.
During our afternoon wanderings we had scouted out some dinner places for our trip and our first stop was Beef&Lobster. 4 dishes on the menu, no messing about!
As always I started with a gin and tonic but this was no ordinary G+T it tasted like orange sherbet. I can’t for the life of me remember why or what was in it but it was good and thats all you really need to know. The Mr went for a Cute Hoor IPA, I know nothing about beer but he says it was good.
No surprise we both picked lobster, can you blame us! Whole juicy lobster smothered in garlic butter for him and a warm brioche slab packed full of delicious lobster meat in a citrus mayo. Now i’ve had a few lobster rolls in my time and this one is at the top of the list! Plus chips dipped in garlic butter is the best way to start a holiday.
We finished everything up with profiteroles before rolling ourselves back to the hotel ready for a day of adventuring.
