Pale Girl Problems

P1210012

As much as I love my pale my skin, my Irish heritage does cause some beauty problems!

1. Finding an affordable foundation that doesn’t turn me orange.

High end brands can be just as bad but most have slightly better shade range however finding a high street foundation my shade has been almost impossible if you are having the same issue here are some high end and high street suggestions L’Oreal True Match in Rose Ivory, Rimmel Wake Me Up in Porcelain, Illamasqua Skin Base, NARS Sheer Glow.

2. Being able to contour without looking like you applied mud to your face.

As with foundation contouring can be difficult for us pale girls with a lot of popular products – Benefit Hoola i’m looking at you – giving us muddy results however I have found a few products which are fantastic  which you can read here.

3.Burning even in the English sun.

As soon as the sun starts peeking round the clouds on goes the factor 5o otherwise I will be lobster red by the end of the day.

4. People not believing you’ve been on holiday because you just don’t tan.

I honestly don’t tan even if I do burn I just go straight back to white, so to stop with the annoying questioning about my inability to tan I often opt for a bit of the fake bake. My favourite brand to use is Cocoa Brown. You can create a realistic tan and it doesn’t turn you Oomph Loompa orange.

5. People asking if you are feeling alright when you’re not wearing make-up.

‘You look awfully pale are you alright’ ‘Yep that’s just my face without all the contouring and blush’

Have you encountered any of these #palegirlproblems

Ping Pong|Review

P1210761

*apologies for lack of photos I hadn’t planned on blogging but couldn’t resist snapping a few*

I’ve been wanting to go to Ping Pong since, well what seems like forever, finally after some nagging and organising I managed to get the girls together for dinner.

P1210763

First thing is Ping Pong is super popular we went into the Embankment branch at around 6:30 and it was buzzing. We managed to squeeze onto a sharing table and order some drinks before tackling the menu – the ordering system is a little odd, you tick the items you want before handing the list to a staff member, basically doing their job for them.

P1210765

Having not been there before and having heard great things about the pork buns I ordered them along with an array of other goodies.

P1210764

The food is amazing, full of flavour, warm fluffy dough filled with succulent pork, another food description sentence. However I wouldn’t suggest Ping Ping for a catch up dinner. I could hardly hear myself speak amongst the chatter of other tables and clinking at the bar.

90’s Nude Love

Clinique Whole Lotta Honey|Soap&Glory Naked Beige|MAC Modesty|Clinique Blushing Nude|MAC Whirl.

Okay I admit it I am obsessed with the 90’s nude lip trend. The browny nudes are so flattering and easy to wear, perfect for lazy days and nights out.

Clinique Chubby Stick in Whole Lotta Honey£17.00

This is great for people who want to achieve that Kylie Jenner lip colour but keep it low maintenance. The Clinique Chubby Sticks are super moisturising with a sheer lip colour, they instantly take care of dry lips. The perfect lip balm for day to day use.

Soap&Glory Super-Colour FabuLIPstick in Naked Beige£9.00

A great high street alternative to the 90’s nude look, definitely more of a brown toned nude this looks beautiful on all skin tones and just like the Chubby Stick it’s packed full of moisture. Super pigmented and full of lip plumping properties this can really give you the Jenner pout.

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Modesty£15.50

Modesty is a more pink toned nude but still quite dark and is perfect for both day and night. As its part of the Cremesheen family it is super moisturising – you noticing a trend? but is also packed full of pigmentation.

Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Blushing Nude£17.50

The most expensive of my favourite nudes but it’s so worth the money, like the MAC Modesty it’s more of a pink toned nude. Not as moisturising as the others it has an amazing long wearing formula packed full of pigment and a gorgeous shiny finish.

MAC Lip Liner in Whirl£12.50

Rumoured to be one the many lip colours that Ms Jenner actually wears I love using this liner with all of the above lipsticks but also as an all over lip colour. It’s a matte, liner with a mixture of both brown and pink. It defines and stops the lipsticks from feathering and has an amazing lasting power.

Other honourable mentions include Maybelline Colour Drama in Nude Perfection, Rimmel Moisture Renew in Nottinghill Nude and Rimmel Lasting Finish Liner in Spice

Are you a 90’s Nude fan?

London Southbank is one of my all time favourite places to go and recently I went there with some of the family for a day out at the Aquarium. Its still not entirely spring in the UK yet so I wanted to layer up so wrapped up with a pussy-bow blouse, a jerkin that you can’t see and then my favourite military style coat from H&M. This look is slightly more sophisticated than what I normally go for but I really love it. I went for trusty favourites on the bottom half with my ASOS Ridley Jeans and H&M Chelsea Boots.

Models Own Brush Kit|Review

P1210802

Models Own Travel Brush Kit£10.00

I am a sucker for a brush set and these hot pink Models Own ones really caught my eye. There are five brushes in the kit – I have lost one on a set somewhere. A powder brush, shading brush, lip brush, blending brush and angled brush. My favourites are the powder and blending brush.

Super soft and none of them shed these are great for either someone just starting out or a professional. These I think are only available at Boots in the UK but you might be able to find them online.

M.A.C Vex|Review

 M.A.C Shadow in Vex£13.00

As you may know I am not the biggest fan of M.A.C eye shadows I don’t like the price tag and there are so many dupes out there some which are better! However one shadow that I absolutely love mainly due to its beautiful duo chrome is Vex. It doesn’t photograph well but its a gorgeous grey based shadow with silver, green and pink running through it.

Not so stunning on its own but over a matte base shadow it creates instant glamour. I love pairing this with Maybelline Permanent Taupe. If you are a slightly ‘lazy’ make-up applier – read as you have better things to do with your time. Then this is a great swipe and go shadow.

Savage Beauty|McQueen Exhibition

My mum is a member of the V&A which meant that we got to go and see the beautiful McQueen Savage Beauty a day before it is opened to the public.

P1210767

We started the day off with a bit of tea and cake in the members lounge which is situated at the very top of the building hidden away behind a two way mirror.

P1210792

The actual exhibition is a no photography zone and I am sort of glad it is as I think its something that you should go and experience for yourself rather than viewing it from a computer screen.

It’s very hard to put into words how amazing the collection is, the whole exhibition is very McQueen with each room taking on a different theme – one minute you are in the catacombs of Paris and the next you are in a royal throne room. The selection of clothes on display is phenomenal and being able to see the clothes close up is such a privilege. Like I said its hard to describe you can only really understand if you see it yourself.

My mum attempted to put it into words and came out with this:

Exceptional – stunningly beautiful, theatrical, disturbing. And – in a darkened room, dancing to the music from Schindler’s List, Kate Moss in a pepper’s ghost effect dancing/floating in a McQueen dress of clouds of white tulle. Eerie . . .

Which I think sums up a small part of it!

The Porcelain Girls Contour

P1210687

Inglot AMC Bronzing Powder|Soap&Glory Glow Job|Illamasqua Hollow.

As much as I love my pale skin it can be hard to find make-up products that suit it, especially contouring products. A lot of the highstreet brands are too orange, or muddy on my skin but I have three in my collection which are great for chiselling out the cheekbones.

Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow£17.50

If I could only recommend one product it would be the Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow, the main selling point of this is the colour, it’s a gorgeous taupe colour so creates the idea of a shadow on the face instead of a block of orange. It is super creamy and blends easily using either your fingers or a brush – I love applying this with my fingers as I can create a really natural contour.

Inglot AMC Bronzing Powder in 80£17.00

If you are more into a powder formula then I love the Inglot Bronzing Powder. It’s a collection of five different shades that can be used individually or altogether which is how I prefer to apply it. It has a very subtle glow to it but still works to contour with but what I love is how natural it looks once applied to the skin. Great pigmentation and lasting power.

Soap&Glory Glow Job£11.00

This is actually a facial fake tanner but works perfectly as a cream contour, the darkest out of my three choices its great for extreme contouring and warming up of the face. It applies as a white cream but as it is blended – this is best done with your fingers, the micro beads inside burst to change the colour of the product into a natural tan. It sounds very scientific but its an amazing product.

What are your favourite contour products?

The Re-Purchasables

P1210697

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume|Olay Refreshing Toner|Clinique All About Eyes|Maybelline The Eraser Eye|Nivea Express Hydration.

Every month I have a collection of favourites but very few items make the re-purchasable list, here a few products that I can’t live without!

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara£17.00

I dubbed this my holy grail mascara and so far nothing has beaten this, it lengthens and adds lashings of volume to your lashes. It doesn’t flake but is easy to remove which I think is the perfect combination. Although not the cheapest of mascaras I think its well worth spending your pennies on!

Olay Refreshing Toner£2.99

Although not the most exciting product I use this in both the evening and morning to refresh my face as well as remove any unwanted dirt. Its effective, doesn’t dry out your skin and won’t break the bank – so you can by that mascara!

Clinique All About Eyes – £26.00

Eye creams are a little like marmite and I used to be a hater until i discovered this gem from Clinique. You can feel it soothing and hydrating your under eyes as soon as its applied. A real luxury product but a little bit goes a long way so it’s definitely an investment.

Maybelline The Eraser Eye Concealer£7.99

As someone who adores the full coverage look this concealer is my new best friend. Full coverage, easy to blend and with a yellow undertone to cover up any discolouration who wouldn’t love this, plus its under £10. The applicator I love but can be removed if your hygiene alarms are going off.

Nivea Express Hydration Primer£4.99

I start nearly every day with this moisturiser primer hybrid. It hydrates me skin whilst also prepping my skin for my make-up and helping it last the day. Again a super inexpensive product which really works.

 Blouse – Topshop|Jumper – H&M|Shorts – Primark|Boots – ASOS.

My current obsession is the film Vampire Academy and part of the obsession is how bad ass Rose made her school uniform; so I took a little bit of inspiration to create this preppy monochrome outfit which has a slight edge.

My favourite thing about this outfit are the shorts, the scalloped edge makes it a little different to all my other black shorts and at only £12.00 there is no excuse not to snap them up! Super comfy and a little bit high waisted without being restrictive or super short.

Nothing beats a white collar with a black jumper and the different textures add another something to the outfit. The jumper is a little cropped number that I picked up in the H&M sale, great for high waisted bottom halves, helping make the body look a little longer than it actually is. To get that edgy Rose Hathaway vibe I added my chunky ASOS Roxy Boots.

Have you seen Vampire Academy?
