History, History and More History|Orkney Day Two

Orkney is steeped in history, so on our second day we set off to see some of the amazing historical sights.

P1240116

We started at Skara Brae. A Neolithic village which is older than both Stone Henge and The Great Pyramids.

P1240102P1240097P1240098

You can also go into the bizarre house of the Laird who discovered Skara Brae; filled with trinkets from all over the world and his wives wardrobe which is to die for.

P1240118P1240124P1240126

Afterwards we headed off to the Ring of Brodgar; a henge – much like Stone Henge – which is veiled in mystery but was used by the tanks in the war to practice agility.

The history of Orkney is still appearing as just down the road we  stumbled upon an actual archeological dig – Yes I geeked out majorly.

P1240166P1240167

Lastly we walked down to the Standing Stones of Stenness.

P1240171P1240176

Now if that all seems like too much history in one day there is a convenient bus tour which gives you little time slot at each site so your not overwhelmed.

We finished off our educational day with dinner at the Stromness Hotel.

The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were lovely.

Make sure you didn’t miss Day One of our adventures.

Viewing Neverland and Skimming Stones|Orkney Day One

Orkney is a place loved by the rest of my family but somewhere I have never been,

So when my mum and I were thinking about where to holiday this summer it was top of our list.

After flying on the smallest plane i’ve ever flown on – it seated around 30 people. I caught my first glimpse of The Orkney Islands; which through the clouds looked like Neverland.

IMG_1543IMG_1544

We checked into our charming little hotel in Stromness (on the mainland) The Ferry Inn.

Linked to a proper country pub with friendly staff and an amazing menu – more on that later.

Not wanting to miss out on any of the day we set off for a ‘stroll’ around Ness Point.

P1240061P1240055P1240057

We stopped to skim stones and collect pebbles before heading back for dinner.

P1240073P1240064P1240060P1240084

We ate at the hotel where I went for a house special. Beer Battered Haddock with Homemade Tartare Sauce, Handcut Chips and Peas – the dish speaks for itself.

P1240087

Followed by sharing a Rhubarb Fool with my mum.

P1240091

Exhausted but excited for the next day we retired early.

The Every Occasion Outfit|OOTD

Crop Top – Topshop|Shorts – H&M|Boots – New Look (similar)|Bag – Accessorize|Tattoos – Lottie London.

Why do I always look so moody in OOTD posts. I promise i’m a happy person!

Anyway, I love this outfit; it’s again very simple but it’s the perfect outfit for just about any occasion. I can see myself wearing this for a lunch date, shopping with the girls, a night out at a cocktail bar or just lounging about at home – minus the boots of course.

The shorts from New Look are a tiny little bit short however I find that wearing some cycling shorts underneath helps any unfortunate flashes. Yes I am still wearing metallic tattoos and these ones are by Lottie London. You get a ton of designs in both silver, gold and black and they are slightly more delicate than the Primark ones I have previously worn. Really easy to apply and last for a good week.

Brighton Metropole Hilton|Review

P1230870P1230871P1230943

I recently took myself on a little mini break to Brighton and I stayed in the Brighton Metropole Hotel which is a Hilton Hotel and I thought I would do a mini review incase any one was interested in my experience whilst staying there.

Price

I paid a non refundable price of £108.75 for a Hilton Double with a Sea View. When I arrived I actually upgraded my room to a Deluxe Double with a Sea View for only an extra £50; not at all necessary but as I was treating myself I didn’t mind too much. You don’t have to go non-refundable but if you go for more of a flexible package the price can go up.

Room Value

My room was lovely, nothing super special in decoration but thats what I like when booking with Hilton you know you are going to get a comfortable room which is clean and tidy and i’m never going to say no to a king size bed. As I had a sea view I was very lucky to have a gorgeous view across at the West Pier which was lovely to wake up to in the morning. Also I am a sucker for a cute coffee station and the bathroom had a bath and a shower!

Customer Service and Food

All the staff were absolutely delightful, really helpful and never pushed you to purchase anything extra. I ordered room service instead of using the hotel dining room and firstly the range of food was amazing and fantastically made. I opted for a healthy but packed full of protein salad followed by a slightly less healthy cheeseboard.

If you are looking for a get away without leaving the country then I would highly recommend a stay at the Brighton Hilton – they also have a spa, pool and gym which i didn’t get to visit but heard great things about!

What’s in my bag?!|2015

P1230996P1230998

In my whole three years of blogging i’ve never done a What’s in my Bag blog post so I thought whilst clearing it out I would share with you all the rubbish I cart around with me in my Accessorize Charlotte Work Bag which is the perfect size for a hoarder like me.

Star items include my Filofax which organises my life from meetings, blog posts and work, over filled Illamasqua make-up bag which trust me is just filled with concealers and mascaras – I have problems and my Accesorize purse which holds a stupid amount of store cards that I never use!

What do you keep in your bag?

Brighton Mini Break

P1230941

Brighton is only an hour away from me so to get away from the bustle of London I took myself off for a little overnight by the sea.

IMG_1435FullSizeRender

I have a few friends that are based in Brighton so decided to spend my afternoon with them catching up over burgers and cocktails at a rather yummy restaurant aptly named Burgers and Cocktails which I believe is owned by Giraffe. Really amazing milkshakes – I had a Rocky Road milkshake along side my bacon and cheese burger.

P1230931P1230874P1230882P1230908I love aquariums there is something so calming about them so I just had to visit the Sea Life Center near Brighton Pier. Its a lot smaller than the London one however it has a great layout and the coloured ceiling is an added bonus.

P1230950P1230951P1230955

I stayed at the Hilton Metropole which was absolutely lovely and out of my window I could see the west pier which at sunset is gorgeous and I got a little snap happy!

In The Nude|Review

P1230784P1230816P1230786

w7 In the Nude£4.99

Dubbed as the dupe for Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette I picked this up for my bridal kit and I think its really good value for money. The quality is not as good as Urban Decay but it is still very good, full of pigmentation, quite a buttery texture to the shadows and a good combination of mattes and shimmers. I am not normally a massive fan of more pink and gold toned shadows but this has a really lovely selection and they are quite subtle shades and will be super useful for my bridal and special occasion kit.

They also do two other palettes which are dupes for the Naked 1 and 2.

Becoming A Low Maintenance Makeup User

P1210224P1230823

Now don’t think I don’t love make-up anymore because my make-up collection is still as large as ever however I have most definitely become a lot more low maintenance about how much make-up I am wearing on a day to day basis. I love a good smokey eye but possibly not on a Monday morning when i’m sitting in my pyjamas munching on some toast.

Ever since stopping wearing foundation on a day to day basis my skin is looking so much more radiant and I barely wear foundation unless its a special occasion or i’m having a bad face day. Mascara is still a must if i’m leaving the house to see people but now I will scurry round to the shops without anything on my peepers-baby steps people! Lips I have completely ditched anything red or berry toned and really only where nude colours. This I feel is just because of the season and I will be back wearing red lipstick as soon as winter rolls round.

Are you more low maintenance or high maintenance make-up girl?

July Favourites|2015

Illamasqua Shadow in Stealth|got2b Tame&Shining Styling Oil|Soap&Glory Feel Good Factor|BarryM Gelly Nail Paint in Cotton|Rimmel Lasting Finish Liner in Spice.

July is over what!? I don’t think I have really stopped this month i’ve been filming on location quite a lot which has been great fun but again early mornings have meant not too much make-up. However I have been loving the Illamasqua Eye Shadow in Stealth which is a gorgeous matte cream colour which really helps to brighten up your eyes especially if it’s layered over a cream base. I have also been in love with the Rimmel Lip Liner in Spice which is a 90’s brown/red nude and very flattering with my pale skin.

I’m still not over my white nail obsession and turned to BarryM for a new one and thought I would try out the Gelly Hi-Shine formula. The lasting power of this with a top coat is insane and it’s super opaque after just one coat! My hair has been very much abused recently and so i’ve been trying to look after it with some styling oil mainly to get rid of the dryness and to tame the flyways, got2b Styling Oil is a really nice product which isn’t too greasy but still gets the job done and really smooths and provides shine to my hair. Lastly in July I was loving Soap&Glory Feel Good Factor which is a facial suncream with an SPF 25 which is amazing, it doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy and protects it from the sun.

What were you loving in the month of July?

ASOS Girl|OOTD

Shirt, Jeans and BootsASOS.

I am a walking advert for ASOS in this outfit and I didn’t even mean to be! The ASOS sale is literally one of my favourite parts of the year because the bargains are insane. I wore this outfit for dinner and cinema with A and love how great it is for summer evenings.

I live in Ridley Skinny Jeans so when some distressed ones popped up in the sale I just couldn’t say no. I’m not sure I have the best knees for tight ripped jeans – they’ve been compared to two doughnuts but I love how they add a bit of grunge to the outfit without looking trashy.

The kimono shirt was a pretty big step outside the box for me. It’s super over sized and I was a little worried it would drown my quite tiny body especially with the large floral print, but I love how floaty and boho it feels which adds contrast to the ripped jeans.

I’ve had the Roxy Chelsea Boots since Christmas and found I haven’t worn them to much so decided to wipe the dust off them and take them for a ride.

Do you ever end up wearing just one brand?
