Time to take date night a little further a field

Date night is super important for the Mr and I, we both work crazy hours so making sure we get some time together each week is top priority. We decided to travel a little further out than normal to check out a relatively new pub in Finsbury Park called The White Lion.

I kicked off everything with a lavender gin with mediterranean tonic, seriously you need this in your life and the Mr had a toasted lager.

The menu is the perfect mix of comfort food and enticing flavours, perfect for a romantic date night or a good catch up with a group of friends.

We shared our starters because we couldn’t quite decide. First up Veggie Wings; fried halloumi sticks with either hot sauce or jerk, simple but perfect. I can’t resist squid so I had to try the Deep Fried Squid with Thai Dressing, perfectly fried with not too much batter and just the right amount of spice.

If you are looking for comfort food then the Chilli Beef Fries smothered in cheese and drizzled with sour cream and sweet mustard are definitely for you! I would suggest pairing it with the Grilled Corn with Chilli Salt and Butter a spicy twist on a classic.

Another classic is the Fish Pie; salmon, prawns, haddock, peas and leeks swimming in a creamy rich white sauce topped with mash potato. I paired mine with a slightly fresher side Baby Gem and Avocado Salad.

Somehow we had room for dessert and if you are there on a date I would definitely recommend you get a Chocolate Brownie Sundae, or if you feel like you’re up to the challenge get one just for you! Dark and white chocolate ice-cream with chocolate brownie, honeycomb and vanilla ice-cream. The perfect way to sweeten up any date.
