I love surprises and I love planning them even more.
My wonderful boyfriend celebrated his birthday last week and I decided to surprise him with a few things. Late afternoon after a well earned lie in and present giving we jumped into an Uber with him having no idea where we were going and drove to the Kew Gardens Hotel, where we would be staying.
It’s a lovely boutique hotel above a fabulous pub, a few minutes walk from Kew Gardens station.
We chilled out with a coffee for a few hours just enjoying not having either of our parents in the same place as us, we love them but sometimes you just need a break. Before moving on to the hard stuff.
Evolution White is a fantastic American wine, perfect drunk whilst soaking in the bath, which is exactly what I did.
I’d told him he needed a smart casual change of clothes so we started prepping for the next part of the surprise.
Top – H&M|Jeans – ASOS|Boots – New Look (similar)|Bag – Accessorize.
The Mr and I bonded over our love of good food and drink so I couldn’t think of a better way to spend his birthday than eating our combined body weight and washing it down with some fantastic cocktails at The Powder Keg Diplomacy in Clapham.
I kicked everything off with smooth Chicken Liver Parfait paired with beautiful Hazelnut Cream, the birthday boy had already started to wolf his down before I could snap his.
To follow he had Roast Rabbit Saddle which was melt in the mouth, whereas I opted for the Smoked Haddock paired with Potato Hash,Broccoli and a fried Quails Egg. Rich, decadent and delicious.
We took a little break to try some cocktails; I highly recommend Regali-tea and Fog City 27.
Almost full to the brim we managed to squeeze in some dessert; Cheeseboard for me, goats cheese with honey is my new favourite thing and Aerated Milk Chocolate with Orange Sorbet and Candid Peel for him.
The next stop on his birthday surprise tour was Adventure Bar just down the road, it’s a fantastic kooky cocktail bar with adventures to be had.
Very funky interior and fantastic cocktails.
We drank a fair few but would recommend; Roller Pisco, Flaming Zombie, Mango Collins and a shot of Glacier Mint.
We couldn’t resist having a game of beer pong, although we filled our cups with water! Drink responsibly kids.
A little worse for wear we said goodbye to our fabulous bar tenders and made our way back to the cosy sheets of our hotel bed.
A successful birthday outing with soreheads in the morning.
Your photography is always excellent. I keep forgetting not to come here when I’m hungry. The food looks so good. What kind of camera do you use?
Hi Scott, I use the Lumix GF6; it’s a compact DSLR so perfect for taking great photos without lugging a huge camera around.
