Laundry is a chore but not just for you, the planet as well.
Trying to be sustainable, ethical and eco friendly in every aspect of your life is tough and frankly impossible unless you live off the grid and only eat what you grow, wash your clothes in a river and make your clothes out of hemp. However there are small changes we can male and how we wash our clothes is one of them – no river needed. As always I want to preface this post by saying I am aware I am privileged to be able to make these choices.
The Eco Egg is a game changer, it replaces laundry detergent and fabric conditioner, doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, helps to reduce single use plastic and most importantly it actually works! Also you can pick it up in your local supermarket and won’t break the bank. As always I don’t 100% understand the science behind it. The mineral pellets in the egg work with the water to draw dirt from your clothing fibers and softens your clothes. My cousin who has a husband who plays football and a little girl swears by it as well and never has issues with getting stains out.
However as we are living in the midst of a pandemic and things like masks, duvets, towels etc. need a little more cleaning so I use Fill Laundery Liquid. Fill are amazing as they have a transparent supply chain, use sustainability sourced ingredients, that are cruelty free, vegan, and biodegradable! I’m lucky enough to have The Refill Larder near to where I live which helps make this even more environmentally friendly as I can get my glass bottle re-filled.
If those two options don’t work for you but you still want to help the planet then I would recommend going for either Ecover or Method products, although the Eco Egg will definitely save you money.
