When are you going to get a real job?

My most asked and most hated question.

For those of you who don’t know I don’t just blog; I work in the hotel industry as a Sales and Marketing Co-Ordinator. However because I work in a pub/hotel I am constantly asked when I’m ‘going to get a real job’. Not only by friends but by co-workers! At 25 years I didn’t except myself to be in the role I’m in. In fact I would rather be a lot further on in my career but sometimes doors open a little later than expected.

I love the fact that I’m not hidden away in an office somewhere behind a desk, I get to be at the property I work out 5 days a week but so many people take this as me just having ‘a pub job’ – which by the way is still a proper job!

My main peeve about people asking that question is without people working in the hospitality job you couldn’t go to the pub and get a drink, or book a room in a hotel and then order room service because we would all be off doing ‘proper jobs’. There is a huge and successful career ladder in the hospitality industry which both the Mr and I are currently climbing and without this industry public socialising would pretty much die out – dramatic but true!

If you get up in the morning and do a job be it writing a blog, serving drinks, answering a switchboard, picking up rubbish and get paid weekly, monthly, hourly then you are doing a proper job! Its time to end the stigma that if you’re not sitting behind a desk wearing a suit then you don’t have a real job.

Rant over. #ootd’s and beauty reviews will now resume!
