An Afternoon at the London Wetland Center

Come and explore natures paradise in the middle of London.

Okay so not slap bang in the middle but 15 minutes from Waterloo is The London Wetland Center; an urban oasis for wildlife and people.

We wandered over on a Saturday slightly expecting huge crowds of children running around after ducks but were pleased that even when busy there is still an element of calm. It’s not just for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers it’s the perfect place to just relax whilst walking through meadows and gardens.

Mum and I started with a walk through the Wetlands of the World to discover birds from around the globe, ducking in and out of hides and peering across ponds. I would highly recommend picking up their guide as it has a tick list of bird you see on your visit; before you know it you’ll be the new David Attenborough.

The highlight of the visit had to be watching the otters getting fed. There is something about their little furry faces that makes them so watchable. We could have stayed for hours but there was more to explore.

Whether you’re looking for a fun activity with the family, an interesting location for a date or just green space to relax in London then hop on a train to The Wetland Center and let me know if you see a Wigeon; it’s the only one I didn’t tick off the list!
