I Said Yes

I’m engaged!

Back in January whilst we were away on holiday the Mr got down on one knee and popped the question, to which my immediate response was F*** off (due to excitement) followed by a load of squeals and a thousand yes’s. I have known I wanted to marry him since around 2 months of being together, he is my absolute soul mate and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He is a relatively private person when it comes to social media and puts up with me and my endless Instagram photos. So I’m so glad that he is happy with me to share my wedding journey with you.

I asked on Twitter if people were interested in hearing the whole engagement story and it was a 60/40 split so I thought I’d do the short version – instead of the hour-long saga I’ve been repeating over various brunches with friends. To set the scene we were half way through our mini euro trip having left Amsterdam behind we were in the historical city of Ghent and had just spent a gorgeous day in Bruges. Dinner had been a spontaneous affair at the most amazing restaurant Du Progres and I was none the wiser as I munched my way through a delicious three course dinner. As we left the restaurant the full moon was shining down on the square where our hotel was and after making me go on a few detours so that he was sure we were on our own the Mr got down on one knee and popped the question. As I said above the first phrase out of my mouth was F*** off before a thousand yes’s. It was the perfect, private setting and I was shaking as I snapped a photo of us so I could keep the memory forever!

To celebrate we went on the hunt for a bar but Ghent is a rather sleepy town so the only place open and with people inside was a backpackers bar, nestled away in a corner we raised a glass to our new future together with the rest of the world none the wiser to our news. Back at the hotel around an hour later we face timed our families to let them know the good news but explaining that we would not be announcing it to the rest of the world till we were back in the UK. It was nice to just have it as our secret for the rest of the holiday and if you get engaged whilst away on holiday I would highly recommend it.

I love a wedding as much as the next person but planning one is a whole different ball game. We are on a tight budget so I can’t wait to share my tips and tricks for not spending a fortune and what lessons I learn along the way. Don’t worry the blog isn’t going to turn into a wedding website I’ll still be doing my usual content as well. If there is something you want me to blog about let me know in the comments below, or if you have any advice for me I would love to hear it!
