Plantasia

Its now officially the summer holidays for kids even though some of us have been off for months and I can’t set one foot in London without almost knocking into a gaggle of children. If you’re stuck for something to do with your kids then let me tell you about an awesome bunch of activities going on at Kew Gardens.

What with mum and I pretty much being big kids ourselves I would say we are pretty much the experts.

One of the activities at Kew is The Healing Giant. A garden shaped like a man which shows what plants that are used to treat ailments affecting the area.

But the main event is the Barefoot Walk.

Whip off your shoes and socks and get walking over wood, stones, charcoal and lots more to experience different senses.

And there is mud, lot’s of mud.

I wasn’t too sure about the mud.

After cleaning yourself  up I would suggest a little trip to the palm house it gets a little hot but the plants are beautiful.

Kew Gardens is fabulous for both families, couples and anyone who wants to get lost in nature. With so much to see and do it is definitely a whole day trip perfect for tiring out your munchkins.

Summer Statements

P1150884

Being someone who works in hospitality – the posh word for I work in a bar my daily uniform is black and more black which for someone who loves fashion is both a good and bad thing. Black makes anyone and everyone look great but it can be a little boring at times, also a lot of jobs don’t let you follow your own fashion sense. I have found a great way; especially during the summer, to perk up my all black outfits and let them have a piece of me in them.

P1150882

Brightly coloured statement jewellery is the perfect way to pep up an outfit, if you don’t normally wear statement jewellery then earrings are a great place to start Accessorize has some amazing ones and at a great price as well. Topshop has some gorgeous pieces as well especially for necklaces.

Top 5 Summer Lipsticks

P1150789P1150790P1150791

Yves Rocher – Framboise|Revlon – Sorbet|MAC – Crosswires|Revlon – Tutti Frutti|17 – Hot Chilli

If you’re not in a summery mood yet – although with this heat wave I don’t see how you couldn’t be! Whack on a bright lipstick and you are ready to soak up those rays (after covering yourself in a good SPF) Here are my five favourite lipsticks for these hot months.

If you are a bright pink sort of a girl then the Yves Rocher Moisturising Cream Lipstick in Framboise is for you; it’s more of a fuchsia than a raspberry but it’s super creamy, very highly pigmented and for longevity it last a good while and slightly stains your lips. The Revlon Lipbutter in Sorbet is bright pink but is slightly sheer and doesn’t have a great wearability however they are so moisturising that it’s no bother to re-apply and is perfect for someone who likes a lightweight lipstick.

If you are not into bright lips then the MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Crosswires is a gorgeous pinky coral which has a medium wearability but is really creamy, moisturising and super pigmented. Pink is not for everyone so if you prefer more orange tones in the summer then the Revlon Lipbutter in Tutti Frutti is a good choice; it’s not overly pigmented so is great if you are just getting started with the brighter colours. However if you are a brights lover then the highly pigmented Hot Chilli by Seventeen is perfect it’s a long wearing, creamy lipstick that is perfect for all skin types.

Which would you wear?

Pimms and Sunshine

I used to be the youngest in the family who had to shout to be heard at the dinner table and was often sitting under said table sulking but now there are a few younger munchkins than me running about. The other day the whole clan got together plus a few friends to name the newest little one.

Obviously there was Pimms to help along the celebrations.

After a little ceremony and some live music it was time for cake and playtime.

A trip down memory lane|Cafe Mamma

When I was a little girl nearly every Saturday my mum, my older sister and I would stroll into town and do a spot of shopping before ending the day by meeting up with my dad at Cafe Mamma for dinner. It was a family hang out spot and I was super sad when it closed down; but much to my delight this gorgeous Italian restaurant has re-opened in Kew. The parents and I couldn’t wait to re-visit and we were not disappointed.

It still had the washing hanging up like it used to all those years ago and that true Italian spirit.

P1150733P1150734

I kicked my meal off with a good old cocktail a San Petro – Gin, sweet vermouth, campari and triple sec with orange juice.

I had my first ever taste of calamari at the old Cafe Mamma so it only seemed right to have it as my starter at the new place.

20140723_202415

Linguine tutto mare for my mains and oh my this was crammed full of seafood not just a few prawns and mussels with pasta this was chockerblock with seafood yummies.

20140723_211107

Somehow I managed to cram in a tiramisu for dessert not sure how I did it but I am glad I did.

Holy Grail Mascara Dupe

P1150673P1150670P1150669

Miss Sporty Studio Lash£2.99 is a dupe for Clinique High Impact Mascara£16.00

Clinique High Impact was my HOLY GRAIL mascara with Miss Sporty being a close second and now I realise why because Miss Sporty Studio Lash is a much cheaper dupe of the Clinique proven in the photos above. Both of these mascara’s lengthen and separate your lashes rather than add volume however a few coats of this does thicken up your lashes slightly. The Studio Lash has a plastic wand which makes it easier to get to the root of the lash whereas the Clinique one has a fibre wand but the formula really helps to lengthen the lashes.

I love coating on mascaras and nearly always layer them up so get through tubes of the stuff really quickly so finding that the Miss Sporty is a dupe and a fraction of the price makes me a very happy bunny! If you prefer your higher end brands then try the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume which is just fabulous.

Dress – ASOS|Hat – H&M|Shoes – Primark.

I wore this outfit for a casual dinner with my parents. I found this smock dress on the ASOS sale and just had to have it. When it arrived it looked like a huge tent but I love how loose fitting it is. I wanted to keep the outfit simple as the leaping tigers are the main focus so just added a straw black boater from H&M because well why not and these cute little Primark buckle shoes.

Did you find any bargain in the ASOS sale?
